Hope for Kirwa

Mountainous and densely populated, Rwanda is a country where 80% of the population lives on agriculture: genocide and civil war left deep traces on the population. The most vulnerable were women and children native of Kirwa and other regions. Kirwa is a community of 480 families whose primary activity is farming manioc, beans, sweet potatoes and sweet bananas. However, lack of fertilizers or manure does not allow these families to improve the harvest so as to come out from poverty. Thus, FH makes a commitment to work in close collaboration in the fields of health, agriculture and education. The priority for this program will be families where there are either orphans, disabled or very poor families in precarious situations.
  •  An emphasis will be put on training families to increase their capacities and improve their development. These courses will be punctuated by regular visits and advice.
  •  The Kirwa program helps farmers to improve their agricultural production and their work in associations and cooperatives.
  • The program encourages families to begin new activities generative of income and access micro-credit.
