Hope for Kibiniko
Uganda, one of the Great Lakes Countries, went through many years of civil war and Aids epidemic. As a result some regions are faced with severe poverty. Although things are improving, some areas still lack access to drinking water, schooling for children and health care. That is the case of the Kibiniko region where approximately 225 families live. Among this population, half is under 18 years of age. Most of these families live off the farming of grains (mil, rice), manioc, beans, soybeans and sweet potatoes. FH staff meetings with village, church and family leaders allowed to estimate their needs. That is why FH makes a commitment in association with the local community to train members; to bring them to understand the importance of an adequate level of care for the children. This training will be punctuated by regular visits and advice to enable them to take better decisions.
- An emphasis will be put on developing health care, the village economy and infrastructure, and environmental protection.
- Another objective will be to improve the families’ agricultural production, storage capacity and selling of farm produce.
