Working toward disease resistant cassava in the DRC
The cultivation of cassava is vital for many families in Congo. This crop culture, which has a great potential return, is often challenged today by a disease called mosaic. There are varieties resistant to disease which can be multiplied and distributed. We are conducting an agricultural development project with this focus in South Kivu. The cassava cuttings are produced and made available to families in the areas of Mwenga, Shabunda and Pangi. In collaboration with the Institut National d'Etudes et de Recherche Agronomique, new varieties of beans, groundnuts, rice and soybeans are also being tested.
