Cambodia
Agriculture and Community Health
This program is located in northern Cambodia. Since 2000, after the capture of the last rebel khmer rouge commander by government forces, cambodian refugees in Thailand have begun to return to this province. Peace has returned, but many landmines remain in the soil and accidents are frequent. The Otdor Meanchey province is one of the poorest in the country. It is located in a mountainous region which still contains uncultivated land, and thus attracts some families from other regions of the country.
The district of Anlong Veng is the most affected by food insecurity. It is in this region that this program is implemented.
What we are doing:
* Training in sustainable agriculture (with increased productivity, but using few external inputs) and health
* The groups' savings and credit are created and managed by the local association, which also benefit from training in simplified accounting
* Monitoring participating families concerning agriculture, savings, credit and health.
Amount sought for 2007: CHF 28 '000 (Programme over three years, total budget: CHF 98' 400)
